Party Invitations

The festival “Diwali” also called “Deepavali” in rural India which means “Row of Lamps” is a Hindu festival which starts on Dhanteras, which usually falls after eighteen days after Dussehra festival. According to Gregorian calendar, Diwali festival is observed between mid-October and mid-November.

This festival originated in Treta Yuga(era), after the victorious battle by lord Rama over the demon Ravana , returned to his kingdom Ayodhya with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana. To mark the return of their king lord Rama, people of Ayodhya lit their city with millions of earthen lamps. Since then, this day is celebrated as Deepavali or Diwali in India.

Diwali is one of the most important festivals of Hindu’s and is celebrated by wearing new clothes, sharing sweets with friends and family members and also by performing traditional activities such as lighting small clay lamps filled with oil to denote the victory of good over evil. These clay lamps are lighted during the night to welcome goddess Lakshmi into their homes. Also firecrackers are burst in homes which believed to drive away evil spirits.

Recently on October 30th, the first-ever Diwali festival was celebrated at the US Congress amidst chanting of Vedic mantras by a Hindu priest. This occasion was also used to highlight the significance of Indian-US relationship.

Below is a video from the white House, our beloved current president of United States, Mr. Barack Obama spoke few words about the importance of Diwali and conveys Diwali wishes to everyone.

In case you need a refresher, the Summer Solstice is when the sun is farthest away from the equator. It’s the longest day of the year, not necessarily the hottest. But don’t fret sun worshipers, it’s bound to get super hot.
